Today I’m partnering with Knorr, and I’ll use Knorr Liquid Seasoning to make the 5 most popular Asian marinades for chicken — Char Siu, General Tso’s, Teriyaki, Sweet & Sour, and Honey Sesame. I’ll also show you how you can easily bake marinated chicken in your oven for a quick and delicious dinner.

5 Asian Marinades for Chicken

5 Most Popular Asian Marinades:

Note: Each marinade is made for 1 to 2 pounds of chicken.

Serves: 2 to 4
Prep time: 10 minutes (to prepare for each marinade)
Marinate time: 30 minutes to overnight
Cook time: 30 minutes

Char Siu Marinade:
2 tablespoons Knorr Liquid Seasoning
2 pieces fermented red bean curd
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
1 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
2 tablespoons honey
Pinch of five-spice powder
Pinch of white pepper powder

General Tso’s Marinade:
2 tablespoon Knorr Liquid Seasoning
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
1 tablespoon white rice vinegar
1 tablespoon red chili oil
2 tablespoons sugar
Pinch of white pepper powder
2 garlic cloves, minced
6 dried chili peppers

Teriyaki Marinade:
5 tablespoons Knorr Liquid Seasoning
3 tablespoons mirin
3 tablespoons sake
3 tablespoons honey
2 garlic cloves, minced

Sweet and Sour Marinade:
1 tablespoon Knorr Liquid Seasoning
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
3 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup apple juice

Honey Sesame Marinade (for sesame chicken):
2 tablespoons Knorr Liquid Seasoning
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 tablespoons white rice wine
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons white rice vinegar
2 tablespoons sesame oil

Instructions:

  1. To make the marinade, in a bowl, mix in all the seasonings.
  2. Transfer the chicken to a kitchen bag and pour in the marinade. Squeeze most of the air out of the bag and seal it. Distribute and rub the marinade all over the meat.
  3. Let it marinate for 30 minutes to overnight.
  4. Remove the chicken from the bags and place them on the roasting pan.
  5. Reserve marinades.
  6. Transfer the roasting pan to the middle rack of the preheated oven, and roast for 20 minutes, 400 degrees F (204 degrees C).
  7. Remove the roasting pan from the oven. Brush the reserved marinade all over the chicken. Flip the chicken again, and brush the marinades on this side as well.
  8. Return the roasting pan to the middle rack of the oven and roast for a final 10 minutes, 400 degrees F (204 degrees C).
