Chinese Black Pepper Steak is a very homey Cantonese dish. The tenderness of the beef and the spiciness of the black pepper create a perfect balance. Let’s get started with this recipe!
Ingredients:
8 ounces of skirt steak, sliced into strips
6 tablespoons of oil
1 onion, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
Sauce:
2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
1 teaspoon of light soy sauce
1 teaspoon of dark soy sauce
a pinch of black pepper
a pinch of sugar
1 teaspoon of corn starch mix with 1 tablespoon of water
1 tablespoon of oil
Marinade:
1/2 of an egg white
a pinch of salt
a pinch of black pepper
a pinch of sugar
1 tablespoon of shaoxing wine
1 tablespoon of corn starch with 1 tablespoon of water
1 tablespoon of oil
First in a big bowl, add 1/2 of an egg white, a pinch of salt, a pinch of black pepper, a pinch of sugar, 1 tablespoon of shaoxing wine, 1 tablespoon of corn starch with 1 tablespoon of water, 1 tablespoon of oil, and mix together. Then add 8 ounces of sliced beef and mix well. Marinate for beef for at least 30 minutes.
In the mean time, let’s make the sauce! In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon of light soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of dark soy sauce, a pinch of black pepper, a pinch of sugar, 1 teaspoon of corn starch mix with 1 tablespoon of water, 1 tablespoon of oil.
Now it’s time to wok! Ok, I don’t have a wok, but this pan will do just the magic. In this pan, add 3 tablespoons of oil, then stir fry the beef slices until medium well. Then take them out and put aside.
In this same magical pan, add another 3 tablespoons of oil, then introduce 1 sliced onion, 1 sliced green bell pepper, 1 red bell pepper and stir them up for about 1 minute. Ok, now let’s bring back our lovely beef slices, pour in the sauce, and mix well.
