Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania. Although Vilnius is often called a baroque city, here you will find some buildings of gothic, renaissance, and other styles. Like the narrow, curved streets and cozy courtyards are in medieval style. The Old Town is the historical center of Vilnius and it’s also an UNESCO World Heritage site. The main sights of the city are the Gediminas Castle and the Cathedral Square. They are symbols of the capital.

Trakai is a small town in southeastern Lithuania; 23-km southwest of Vilnius. It is built on a narrow, elongated peninsula dividing Lakes Galvė, Totoriškės and Luka. These lakes form part of an interconnected group that consists of at least 30 larger or smaller lakes.

The castle is sometimes referred to as “Little Marienburg”. The construction of the stone castle began in the 14th century by Kęstutis, and around 1409 major works were completed by his son Vytautas the Great, who died in this castle in 1430. Trakai was one of the main centers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the castle held great strategic importance.
